Rudolf

So I have this weird rash on my nose and I look like Rudolf! It is horrible!

I have a question to pose. I love Christmastime. But I have some memories associated with this time of year that make me sad. How do I still enjoy it without being sad when I think of those memories? Any suggestions?

P.S. Friday is National Stay Home Because You Are Well Day. Unfortunately, I will not be able to celebrate that holiday because I stayed home on Thursday because I was not well. Next year perhaps.

The December Ensign has an article about how to be happy during Christmas actually. I think it's directed toward feeling lonely but the ideas would work for any sad feelings in my opinion. BTW, do you live in the same address as last year?

And as always turn to our Savior Jesus Christ.

I think Bekah's right...you need to make new memories of Christmas. Do things you've always wanted to but have never done in the past.

I understand that lots of people deal with unhappiness at Christmastime, I know I have. I'm sorry to hear that you do to. I think part of it is that Christmastime is so hyped up as a time of happiness, and all too often it doesn't live up to its rep for any number of reasons.

I think your friends have some good ideas. Make new memories. I've not been very good at this, but be proactive about serving others. Go out of your way to do nice things for friends and strangers alike. They may not always be receptive, but at least you'll know that you tried. But this is as much advice for myself as anyone else.

I tend to focus on the happy things. And though there may be sad memories associated with this time, depending on what they are, like if they involve people, try to focus on the happy times with them instead. Or, lose yourself in serivce. It really helps to serve. For me I forget about my own problems when I do. I should do it more often though.
