Batteries not included

So I went to Seattle last weekend for my cousin's wedding. I brought my new digital camera. I was really excited because I could take tons of pictures. I took a few pics on the plane before the battery died. Then I forgot to take any pictures the rest of the weekend. So much for my new camera. So here's my documentation of my weekend in Seattle.

Single Awareness Day

On this February 14, I wrote an original Valentine’s Day poem to share:

Roses are red
Bananas are yellow
One of these years
I'm going to catch me a handsome fellow.

So, today I'm celebrating yet another Single Awareness Day. I used to hate Valentine's Day and envy those who got a bunch of roses delivered to school or work from their honey. But I'm reminded of the year I started to like this wonderful holiday. It was when I was in college, and my roommate Teri and I decided to throw a fabulous Single Awareness Day party for all of our fellow SAD celebrators. Our slogan was, “You can’t come with a date, but you might leave with one!” It was such a hit that the following year, we had requests for a sequel months in advance.

Or, what about the year I had two Valentine’s Day dates? That was a good one, too. My friend Tim, his roommate Jon, and I all decided to go out to dinner to celebrate this festive holiday. We sat in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by couples celebrating their love and spent the whole night making fun of the cheesiness all around us. It was hilarious! Then, within a few days after, both of them called and asked me out using the line, “I felt jipped that I only got half a date for Valentine’s Day.” So, not only did I get two dates for the big holiday, but I got two follow-up dates as well.

So, Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day, whatever you want to call it…have a happy one!

The last of 'em

You know you've been home from your mission long enough when your last companion comes home and you no longer know anyone else left in the mission. Even though she may not be glad she's home, I sure am happy she is. I love you Burbuja!

Sometimes I wonder who I’d be today

Remember those Choose Your Own Adventure books? Those were pretty cool. If you didn’t like the ending of the story, or even the middle, you could go back and choose another way for things to pan out. Wouldn’t it be nice if life were that way?

Or what about Barbie? She gets to be anything and everything anyone ever dreamed of being all at once. There’s beach Barbie and business Barbie and doctor Barbie and sparkle Barbie, and the list goes on and on.

I’ll admit, I’m usually not satisfied with my life and where it is. I’m always looking for something bigger, better, different, whatever. And I seriously wonder sometimes, “What would my life be like if ________?” So I decided to really think about it—like a Choose My Own Adventure life. If I could go back and change certain decisions I’ve made…what would my life be like…?

I’m not going to post my answers here—that’s way too personal for the whole world to see. But, I did write them down, and I’ve decided that I really don’t know if changing my decisions would bring me any closer to being my “dream self”.

Groundhog Day Eve

On this wet and dreary February 1, I'd put money on that darn shadow of that famous little groundhog.

The big question of the day is, will he or won't he see his shadow? I believe it's sure to be seen, which means...6 more weeks of winter. YUCK! Sometimes it feels like 6 more months of winter are still in store.

December is over, and I'm ready for summer.

I should be a what?

In a recent self-evaluation, I once again am trying to decide what to do with my life. This online poll suggests I should take after my dad and be a doctor. I'm not so sure about that...what do you think?

You Should Get a MD (Doctor of Medicine)

You're both compassionate and brilliant - a rare combination.
You were born to be a doctor.

I Resolve....

It's that time of year again. Time to think about how you are going to improve over the coming year. Here are a few of my favorites from my dearest friends...can you guess who matches each set of New Year's Resolutions? Here's to improving ourselves!

Happy New Year!

You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man

Amidst our gingerbread house making festivites, the gingerbread man managed to escape again. And, why did we not catch him, you may ask....well, he was just too darn slick in that brand-new iceberg speedo. And we all know that those things have the ability to make any man uncatchable. (Or should I say, less desirable to be caught?)
